One cover, three faces: the meaning behind our book on the firefighters of La Réunion

Our book dedicated to the firefighters of La Réunion opens with a powerful image, designed as a manifesto. Three periods meet on this cover, and three faces express the continuity of the same commitment.

At the centre, an archive photograph shows a 14 July parade from the 1950s–1960s. Public pride, republican duty, collective memory: this image reflects the place of firefighters in the island’s history.

On the left, Lieutenant Joseph Idmont, wearing a traditional helmet and leather jacket. Twenty-six years in Saint-Louis, fifteen years as station officer in Les Avirons, now retired. He represents the elders, loyalty to public service, and steady support for the museum since the beginning.

On the right, Corporal Isabelle Moutaye. A passionate young woman who became a professional firefighter in Saint-Pierre, holding a QHSSE degree and an ultra-trail runner (Diagonale des Fous 2023 with the ECLAS association). She symbolises youth, self-improvement, and the balance between strength and sensitivity.

At the top, the Civil Security Dash 8 reminds us of today’s powerful resources, inter-service coordination, and the State’s commitment alongside the island’s firefighters.

This cover, designed as a single composition, expresses the continuity of one ideal: to serve, to protect, to pass on.

Each sale of this book directly supports the creation of the Firefighters’ Museum of La Réunion and the Indian Ocean.
